Benchies
From the outside, it all looks like it's working.
The good grades, the right job, the plans that make sense on paper. The milestones get hit. The right people are impressed. And still, a lot of people quietly feel empty, even when everything is supposedly going well. The praise lands and slides right off. The days blur into one long to-do list. There's a low hum of being somehow behind even while getting ahead, and a kind of tiredness that sleep doesn't fix. Mostly it's the quiet loneliness of looking completely fine on the outside while feeling thin underneath — and not really having the words for it, or anyone to say it to. It's a common feeling. It's just one almost nobody says out loud.
Faye knows the feeling. So does Samira.
Faye covers it with a bow in her hair and a quiet corner booth, a book and a hojicha latte. Samira covers it with a slightly louder laugh. Neither of them is falling apart — they're just tired in a way that's hard to explain. So every now and then, each of them finds a bench, sits down, and takes a minute that's only theirs. A little Teak Time.
That's what a Benchie is for.
